Yarin Marie came to volunteer at Magen David Adom out of curiosity for the medical world and a desire to be able to help after her younger sister suffered an epileptic seizure. This desire led her to Magen David Adom and opened up a world of dedication to saving lives. She began her journey at the Ofakim Magen David Adom station as a youth volunteer, and later completed training to become an EMT.
Team leaders knew that when Yarin Marie was in the ambulance, the patient was in good hands. In addition to volunteering in ambulances and Mobile Intensive Care Units, she completed an instructor’s course and trained dozens of youth volunteers who saw her as an inspiring figure. She did not give up on Magen David Adom even during her military service. Yossi, the volunteer coordinator at the Ofakim station, recounted: “During every leave, she asked to come and volunteer at Magen David Adom. On weekends, instead of going out, she would come to volunteer at Magen David Adom, on Saturdays, Fridays, and at night.”
Yarin Marie grew up and was educated in Kibbutz Be’eri. She enlisted in the IDF, completed an EMT course with honors, and served in military intensive care at the Nahal Oz outpost.
On Simchat Torah, October 7, 2023, Yarin and her fellow EMT, Magen David Adom volunteer Shir Biton, of blessed memory, encountered a terrorist and managed to injure him. Shortly thereafter, they encountered additional terrorists and, tragically, fell together in battle.
Yarin Marie was initially laid to rest in Savyon and later buried in Kibbutz Be’eri. She is survived by her parents, two sisters, and a partner.
Hundreds of Magen David Adom personnel accompanied her on her final journey, in accordance with her request, and Magen David Adom broadcast the funeral for volunteers who could not attend.
In her memory, a Magen David Adom ambulance bearing her name was dedicated, to continue the work of saving lives.
May her memory be a blessing.
